Nursing Graduation: Nursing Lapel Pin

In this wild ride we call life, there are individuals who quietly play monumental roles, shaping our existence with their love, guidance, and unwavering support. As we celebrate Nurse's Week, I find myself reflecting on one such extraordinary individual - my older sister, Tracy. She's not just a sister; she's been my second mom, my confidante, and my rock.

Sis and Me

As kids, I was the pesky younger sister, and Tracy was the epitome of coolness and beauty. She had this bustling social life, leaving me trailing behind like a puppy. Little did she know, fate had its own plans, thanks to our dear mother. Tracy's knack for hairstyling landed her the job of washing and cornrowing my hair. Although I dreaded getting my hair done, the end result would be beautiful and intricate cornrows adorned with colorful beads. Despite our age difference, life experiences and tragedy would bring us closer than ever before.

In 2003, we unfortunately experienced the untimely loss of our mother that would forge an unbreakable bond between Tracy and me. In the wake of grief, we found comfort by spending every weekend together until we felt strong enough to handle weekends on our own. Eventually, we would become roommates for awhile which proved invaluable in helping us navigate through such a devastating loss. As time progressed, our bond deepened through shared experiences, treasured memories, and an unspoken understanding, strengthening our relationship even further.

Furthermore, Tracy's profession as a nurse adds another layer of admiration to my appreciation for her. The selflessness, compassion, and dedication she embodies in her role as a healthcare provider evoke a profound sense of pride within me. Her tireless efforts in the face of adversity, her unwavering commitment to healing, and her innate ability to comfort those in pain epitomize the essence of nursing - a profession driven by empathy and humanity.

Fast forward to today, whenever I have questions about my health, the health of my teenagers or even the health of my dog Tracy is the first person I call. When I dial her number, I specifically ask to speak to Nurse Tracy, knowing that she's the go-to for any medical questions or concerns I may have. It usually goes something like this, " Is Nurse Tracy available? I need to speak to Nurse Tracy please." Her calming, reassuring tone coupled with her wealth of medical knowledge and innate ability to dispense sound advice have earned her the endearing title of our family's resident healthcare guru.

Additionally, my sister served as the inspiration behind the nurse journals available in my store, Cassi B. Books. I leaned into her knowledge as a nurse when creating the journals. She

provided ample feedback, her expertise and support for my nurse journals.

As we observe Nurse's Week this year, it serves as a touching reminder to honor the unsung heroes in our lives - the nurses who dedicate themselves to the service of others with unwavering devotion. And in this celebration, I raise a toast to my sister, Tracy - a beacon of strength, comfort and compassion.

So here's to you, Nurse Tracy, for not only being an exceptional healthcare professional but also for being the epitome of sisterhood, love, and unwavering support. Your presence in my life is a blessing beyond measure, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

Happy Nurse's Week!

Cassi B.
